Description
The White Star Line was a British shipping company that operated from 1845 to 1934, providing passenger and cargo services between the United States and the British Empire. The company was founded in Liverpool by J. Bruce Ismay, Thomas Henry Ismay, in 1868, Thomas Ismay purchased the company and renamed it the Oceanic Steam Navigation Company (OSNC), focusing on North Atlantic shipping services. The White Star Line's biggest competitor, which was known for being innovative and respected. The White Star Line's first ship, the Oceanic, launched in 1870. Some of the White Star Line's other ships include: Britannic (1874) Teutonic (1889) Majestic, Oceanic, Baltic (2, 1903) Laurentic (1, 1908) Olympic (1911) Titanic (1912) Britannic (2, 1914) Majestic (2, 1922) the White Star Line went bankrupt after its bank, the Royal Bank of Liverpool, failed in 1867, leaving the company with a debt of million dollars from White Star Line's successor.
