Description
The Kettenkrad, officially known as the Sd.Kfz. 2, was a unique German tracked motorcycle developed during World War II. Combining elements of a motorcycle and a half-track, it featured a single front wheel for steering and tank-like tracks for mobility, allowing it to traverse rough terrain with ease. Powered by a 1.5-liter Opel 4-cylinder engine producing 36 horsepower, the Kettenkrad could reach speeds of up to 70 km/h (43 mph) on roads and had a range of around 260 km (160 miles). Measuring approximately 3 meters (9.8 ft) in length and weighing 1.56 tons, it was primarily used for towing light artillery, laying communication cables, and transporting troops or supplies. Despite its small size, the Kettenkrad became one of the most versatile and recognizable vehicles of the war, with over 8,000 units produced between 1941 and 1944.
