Description

The Shibata clan was a Japanese clan that originated during the Heian period of Japan. The Shibata clan of Echigo were descended from Sasaki Moritsuna, a supporter of Minamoto no ######## and a son of Sasaki Hideyoshi. During the Sengoku Jidai there power was minimal until Shibata Katsuie swore allegiance to the Oda clan. As a Oda general he expanded Oda territory. After years of service under Oda ######## he granted them the provinces of Noto and Kaga as rewards which Katsuie Ruled until ######## was murdered by Akechi Mitsuhide, Shibata Katsuie held off the Akechi forces until Mitsuhide was killed by ########## General Hashiba/Toyotomi Hideyoshi. After the succession dispute rocketed in a war against Hideyoshi, Katsuie surrounded on all sides by the Uesugi and the Hashiba forces as his castle burnt around him he died a glorious hero’s death.
