Description
The Galactic Empire was established by Emperor Palpatine after he manipulated the Clone Wars to gain ultimate power, transitioning from the Galactic Republic to a totalitarian regime. Governed by regional governors called the Empire maintained control through a vast military, including Stormtroopers and superweapons like the Death Star. The oppressive rule sparked the formation of the Rebel Alliance, leading to key battles depicted in the original Star Wars trilogy. The Empire's defeat at the Battle of Endor marked its decline, although remnants persisted, eventually giving rise to the First Order.
