Description
The Colorado National Guard maintains a small, platoon-sized unit assigned to support the federal research facility known as Site-77. Only a limited element from the 39th Infantry Brigade Combat Team is approved for activation, keeping deployments controlled and low-profile. This unit operates under the standard National Guard chain of command and shifts to federal authority when activated by presidential order. It is deployed only if Site-77’s internal response teams are overwhelmed or unable to manage a major incident. Members receive special training for the site’s operational environment and are briefed on basic containment procedures to ensure they can function effectively during emergencies. The current federal budget allows for the deployment of approximately 30 troops.
