Description
The Coughlin City Police Department was unofficially formed in 1788 as a night watch, which served the population of Lander City during the night to deter crime as many other municipalities done in the newly formed United States of America. The CCPD was officially formed in 1821 as a response to the rising crime rates in the city, and originally mustered over 720 men to be of service to the city. In a bid for control, the State of Madeline formed the Coughlin Metropolitan Police Department in 1859, which caused tension and violence amongst the municipal and state-controlled police officers. In the fallout of the 1859 police riot, the CMPD was disbanded, and power was relinquished back to the CCPD. The CCPD had a history of brutality during the 19th century. It was not until the 20th century that corruption was investigated within the CCPD, followed by reformations. Today, the CCPD acts as the municipal-level civilian law enforcement agency of the City of Coughlin.
