ROTR | The Jarldom of Dunland #34155749
Description
Dunland was a land in southern Eriador region, the Misty Mountains to its west, Rohan to its south, and the Glanduin river to its north. The name Dunland means "Dark Land", because of its swampy environment and the inhabitants, the Dunlendings, having dark strawy hair, the name being given by the men of Rohan. As the Númenóreans came to Middle Earth, they were very hostile to the Dunlendings. This gave the Dunlendings a big hatred for the Dúnedain. In the Third Age, after the destruction of Erebor, many dwarves of Durin's Folk settled in Dunland, later going to settle in the Blue Mountains. Later on, the Dunlendings went to war against the men of Rohan, after their chieftain, Freca, was killed by Helm Hammerhand, the King of Rohan. A while after they lost the war, they took over the Gondorian fortress of Isengard. This fortress was later resettled by Saruman the White, the head of the Istari Order. After increasing hostilities from Rohan, Dunland participated in the War of the Ring.
