Description
Originally commissioned by the Charter of 1600, the East India Company was given exclusive privilege of trading East of the Cape of Good Hope. However, the Company's quickly became the most important trading company in England, and its power and influence spread worldwide, including to the British colonies. As a powerful faction in Boston, the East India Company sought profit through trade and piracy against enemies of the British Crown.
