Owner: SirErikElite Founded: 5/7/2024 Information: The 79th New York Infantry Regiment was formed in the fall of 1858. The Highland Guard/79th New York was a militia regiment that had no connection to the Scottish 79th Cameron Highlanders, but the regiment would recruit Scottish veterans from the British Army. In 1859, the regiment was designated as light infantry that crossed trains as heavy artillery for the defense of Manhattan. The regiment would also guard the Prince of Wales and the Japanese ambassador's when they visited Manhattan. The regiment, without any knowledge would see themselves fighting in every major engagement of the civil war and became one of the most known and traveled regiments in the Union army.
