Description
The 1st Bengal European Regiment of Foot was founded in 1652 as the EIC's Guard of Honor, and became the Bengal European Regiment in 1756 following Robert Clive's reformation of the EIC's army. The regiment later became the 1st Bengal European Regiment in 1765, then the 1st Bengal European Battalion in 1783, and back to the 1st Bengal European Regiment in 1803. In 1861, the regiment was deemed the 1st Bengal Royal Fusiliers, and in the same year would be transferred to the British army and retitled the 101st Regiment of Foot, as part of the Royal Munster Fusiliers.
