Description
The 81st Group Army of the People's Liberation Army Ground Force (PLAGF) is a key formation under the Central Theater Command, primarily responsible for the defense of Beijing and surrounding regions. Formerly known as the 38th Group Army, it has a long and prestigious history, having played a significant role in the Korean War and various military operations throughout China's modern history. Headquartered in Zhangjiakou, Hebei Province, but with elements stationed near Beijing, the 81st Group Army is considered one of China's most elite and strategically important military units. As a mechanized force, it is heavily equipped with modern weaponry, including Type 99A main battle tanks, ZTZ infantry fighting vehicles, self-propelled artillery, and advanced air defense systems. The unit is designed as a rapid reaction force, capable of deploying quickly in case of military conflict or national emergencies, reinforcing its vital role in capital defense. Given its proximity to Beijing.
