Description
「中華民國」一稱最早是由孫中山於1905年在日本東京召開的中國同盟會成立大會上所提出。1912年1月1日，各省都督府代表聯合會宣布建立民主共和制國家，使用「中華民國」作為國號。延續中國改朝換代的慣例，民國紀年以1912年為元年。1949年後，中華民國政府遷往臺灣，主張擁有中國大陸和臺灣的主權，並在聯合國等國際組織代表「中國」；但在1990年代後承認中華人民共和國實際統治中國大陸，而中華民國有效統治範圍是臺灣地區。目前中華民國多通稱為「臺灣」，在不同國際組織則使用「臺澎金馬個別關稅領域」、「中華臺北」等權宜名稱。
