Description

The Puerto Rican National Army is the official military force of an independent Puerto Rico, established in 1895 following the island’s separation from Spain. Drawing on Spanish military traditions, the army maintains classic Spanish-style uniforms and rank structures, symbolizing the island’s historical heritage and martial discipline. Comprised of a blend of professional soldiers and local militias, the force integrates volunteer militiamen (Voluntarios and Milicianos) with regular army personnel, ensuring readiness for both internal security and external defense. Commanded by the Capitán General, the army emphasizes loyalty, honor, and the defense of Puerto Rican sovereignty.
