Cavalaria de Savoia #34463389
Description
One of the two cavalry regiments for the kingdom of Sardinia. Since medieval times, the Duchy of Savoy had a unit of Gendarmi (Gens d'Armes), known as the “Cavalleria dello Stato” (aka Cavalleria Paesana). The organization and strength of this unit fluctuated through time but it was always formed from men of the regions of Piedmont and Savoy. Every village had to provide a number of young men with horses. By the end of the 16th century, these units consisted of two squadrons.
