El Escuadrón de Rescate y Urgencias Médicas (ERUM) de la Secretaría de Seguridad Ciudadana (SSC) de la Ciudad de México se creó en 1973 con la finalidad de auxiliar a la población en casos de emergencias médicas al ofrecer respuestas inmediatas ante cualquier situación. A su vez, genera cultura de protección civil y preparación de la ciudadanía para enfrentar incidencias y desastres naturales. Entre sus funciones primordiales del ERUM están: atención médica prehospitalaria, ayuda y rescate en casos de accidentes, auxilio a mujeres en labores de parto, apoyo en vías públicas, atención dentro y fuera de eventos masivos, atención a personas accidentadas, traslado de enfermos y lesionados a hospitales.
