After initially remaining neutral, Italy entered World War I in 1915 on the side of the Entente, seeking to reclaim *terre irredente* (unredeemed lands) from Austria-Hungary, Trentino, Trieste, Istria, and Dalmatia. The Italian Army faces brutal mountain warfare in the Alps and the Isonzo River, fighting against the Austro-Hungarian forces in grueling battles. Italy stands united under King Vittorio Emanuele III, with soldiers from all regions, Piedmontese, Lombards, Venetians, Tuscans, Neapolitans, and Sicilians, fighting for la Patria.
