Description
The Akechi clan (明智氏, were a branch of the Toki clan, who were descended from the Seiwa Genji. The Akechi clan were prominent during the Sengoku period of the 16th century and became the head of the Toki clan after the Toki fell to the Saitō clan in 1540. The Akechi later served Oda Nobunaga and became well-known for Akechi Mitsuhide, a powerful general under Nobunaga who betrayed and killed his master in June 1582.
