They moved westward, reaching the Black Sea area by 370, and defeated the Goths, asserting their dominance. Led by Attila and his brother Bleda, the H ns expanded their empire. After Bleda's death in 445, Attila ruled alone and waged successful campaigns against the Eastern and Western Roman Empires. In 451, he fought the Romans and Visigoths at the Battle of the Catalaunian Plains and invaded Italy in 452, though he didn't capture Rome. Attila's death in 453 led to the empire's rapid decline, and by 469, it had disintegrated.
