Description
Sparta was a city-state in the land of Greece. It had a militaristic culture, and young boys were required to enlist at the age of seven and were not allowed to retire until the age of sixty-five. Sparta was a dominant Western power and had one of the world's most powerful armies. The decline of Sparta began during the Peloponnessian War against Athens. Sparta won, but left the state weakened.
