Description
With the rapid escalation of conflict, Seabees became seen as a necessary forward element by the Navy, Naval Construction Battalion 3 was stood up as a more combat oriented engineering unit. Sent en masse to the School of Infantry, NCB3 was reformed into a combat engineering unit intended to not just clear the beach, but to take it. As the war became more intense, it was deemed necessary to attach both UDT and SEAL teams to enable the Seabees to execute more violent, rapid assaults along coasts around the world.
