Description
Originating from the Dutch Republic, the Van Rijns moved to the Americas at the beginning of American colonization in 1614. Being part of the States Assembly, the Van Rijns were tasked with holding the Dutch colony of New Amsterdam. They landed in the colony, and built a mansion there. They were an influential part of Dutch control of the colony up until the British conquest of the city in 1664. Nearing the end of the 17th century, the Van Rijns sprouted roots all over the American Colonies, particularly Boston, Newport, and Albany. The current head of house is Ilse Van Rijn I.
