⭐53RD "SHROPSHIRE" REGIMENT OF FOOT 💂"The Old Five" Formed in 1755, the Shropshire Regiment of Foot was raised by William Whitmore for service during the "7 Years War" back then being known as the 55th Regiment of Foot up until the disbandment of the following 50th and 51st. During the Napoleonic Wars the 53rd was sent to Flanders and fought at the Battle of Famars in 1793, the Siege of Valenciennes, Siege of Dunkirk, Siege of Nieuwpoort, Siege of Landreices and the Battle of Tournay in May 1794. To increase the strength of the unit, a 2nd Battalion was raised. Meanwhile the 1st Battalion was sent to fight in India. The 2nd Battalion would be sent to Portugal to fight in the Peninsular War Campaign, fighting in the Battle of Porto and Talavera before retreating towards the Lines of Torres Vedras. Shortly after it would take part in the Blockade of Almeida in April 1811 and the Battle of Fuentes de Oñoro.
