Description

The 42nd Infantry Division, known as the "Rainbow Division," is a US Army National Guard unit famous for its diverse origins in WWI (National Guard from 26 states) and its significant service in both World Wars, notably liberating the Dachau concentration camp in WWII; its patch, originally a full rainbow, became a half-rainbow to signify sacrifices made, serving across Europe in major campaigns and continuing its legacy through modern deployments like the Global War on Terrorism.
