Goryeo was considered the golden age of Korea. In 1270 they surrendered and became vassals of the Mongol Yuan Dynasty, but they still had a degree of freedom compared to most of the territory of the Mongol Empire. During its time as a vassal state, Goryeo supplied the Mongols with Korean troops, ships, and sailors, to help the Yuan dynasty conquer the Japanese archipelago.
