Description
The interwar period, which began after World War I and extended into the 1930s, was a time of significant challenges and changes for the Gendarmerie. Romania's territorial expansion, following the union of Bessarabia, Bukovina, and Transylvania with the Old Kingdom, required the Gendarmerie to adapt to a larger, more diverse population. New administrative regions were created, and the Gendarmerie's responsibilities expanded, including tasks like border security, countering smuggling, and managing the increased population's law enforcement needs.
