COMBRITBAT Grapple 1 - 1st Battalion, Cheshire Regiment The Cheshire Regiment is one of Britain’s oldest units, dating back to 1689 as the 22nd Regiment of Foot. In October 1992 the 1st Battalion of the Cheshire Regiment would deploy to the shattering Yugoslavia as part of Operation Grapple, and as part of the United Nations Protection Force. The battalion, alongside an attached battalion of Royal Welch Fusiliers would be tasked with monitoring ceasefires, protecting civilian life and overall supporting humanitarian efforts in a crumbling Yugoslav state.
