Description
The Pinecrest State Police was officially created on March 29, 1921, following the passage of critical legislation aimed at bringing order to the untamed wilderness and remote areas of the state. The law was signed by Governor William Harlan after growing concerns about bandits and lawlessness in the Pinecrest Woods and its surrounding rural towns. Led by Captain Walter Thorne, the agency began with a handful of dedicated officers tasked with patrolling the vast, rugged terrain and enforcing the law where local police forces had failed. Initially focused on highway patrols and suppressing criminal gangs, the Pinecrest State Police evolved into a sophisticated agency, using emerging technologies and tactics to combat threats ranging from smuggling to forest fires in the years that followed.
