Description

The House of Évreux traces its origins to the early 15th century, during an era of maritime trade and exploration along the French coast. The founder of their family was a skilled sailor and navigator who earned his fortune by leading expeditions across the Mediterranean and beyond. Their accumulated wealth from the sea allowed them to build a grand seaside castle perched on cliffs overlooking the Atlantic. This castle was named Siren's Watch alternatively named Montre Sirène, symbolizing their dominance over the waves. Legend has it that the Évreux family was blessed by a mermaid, a mermaid that the founder of the family had apparently saved from a deadly storm during one of his early voyages. In gratitude, the mermaid granted the family eternal prosperity on the seas. This legend gave rise to the family’s sigil: a crowned mermaid.
