𝐔𝐍𝐈𝐓 𝐎𝐑𝐆𝐀𝐍𝐈𝐙𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍 XI Corps, III Division, III Brigade 𝐔𝐍𝐈𝐓 𝐁𝐀𝐂𝐊𝐆𝐑𝐎𝐔𝐍𝐃 The 39th New York Infantry Regiment, famously known as the "Garibaldi Guard," was a unique and diverse unit that served with distinction during the American Civil War. Organized in New York City in May 1861, it was composed of volunteers from various European nationalities, including Hungarians, Germans, Italians, French, Spanish, and Swiss. Named after the Italian revolutionary Giuseppe Garibaldi, the regiment participated in several major engagements including the First Battle of Bull Run, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, and the Wilderness Campaign.
