Description
The 422nd Night Fighter Squadron was a Squadron set up as part of IX Tactical Air Command and was one of three Night Fighter Squadrons in the 9th Air Force. The 422nd was established on the 1st August 1943. The Squadron began training at Orlando Army Air Field and completed its training at Hammer Army Air Field. In 1944 the Squadron was sent to Charmy Down Airfield in Somerset, England. They later moved to Scorton Airfield and then to France after D-Day.
