Description
The Grand Ducal Hessian Military referred to the land forces of the Grand Duchy of Hesse colloquially known as Hessen-Darmstadt. It would participate as an ally of France during the Napoleonic Wars as a member of the Confederation of the Rhine from 1806 to 1813, being reputed for the successes of its troops in the Peninsular War and the Russian Campaign. After the Battle of Leipzig, it would join the coalition armies for a final offensive into France in the 1814 and 1815 campaigns.
