Description
'The 4th Infantry Regiment was formed mainly from recruits from the departments of Warsaw and Płock. In 1808 it was stationed in Płock. After the Galician campaign, it included a large group of recruits from the Lublin department and several hundred Poles from Galicia who had escaped from Austrian service or were taken prisoner in 1809. Several dozen Czechs, Hungarians, Silesians and Germans, taken prisoner in the fights against the Austrians, also served in the regiment. The 4th Infantry Regiment fought the Battle of Fuengirola on the Mediterranean coast near Málaga. These events took place in the autumn of 1810, when the British attempted tp sabotage the French offensive in Portugal. Four hundred soldiers of the 4th Infantry Regiment had to face an enemy seven times larger in number, who had Artillery support and could count on the help of Spanish partisans`
