Description
Since the Habsburgs inherited Austria in 1282, Austria would experience a time of massive growth in both culture and size, helping establish Austria as the near undisputed powerhouse of the Holy Roman Empire. Its power would begin to rapidly diminish throughout the mid-1700s and the 1800s, seeing the Habsburgs begin to lose vast amounts of power. After the end of the Great War, Austria would see itself a mere shadow of its former glory. With the Protestant Reformation, the Catholic Austrians would see their power under threat by the Protestant movements across Northern Europe. Austria, being a staunchly Catholic nation, would attempt to suppress the Protestant movements only to begin igniting the fuse that would see war ravage most of Central Europe. The Austrians would not be prepared for what was to come.
