Description
Le forze armate della Repubblica Sovietica nacquero dopo la Rivoluzione d'Ottobre del 1917, quando fu creato l'Esercito Rosso per combattere le forze bianche nella Guerra Civile Russa. Leon Trotsky, commissario per la guerra, giocò un ruolo cruciale nella sua organizzazione. Durante gli anni '20, l'Esercito Rosso consolidò il suo potere e iniziò a modernizzarsi. Negli anni '30, sotto Stalin, le forze armate subirono purghe che rimossero molti ufficiali superiori, ma il governo sovietico avviò anche una rapida industrializzazione e modernizzazione militare. Durante la Seconda Guerra Mondiale, l'Armata Rossa fu fondamentale nella lotta contro l'Asse, superando iniziali sconfitte e vincendo battaglie decisive come quella di Stalingrado.
