Both claimed descent from the hero Heracles and ruled Sparta through a unique system of dual kingship. The Agiad dynasty, producing legendary warriors like King Leonidas, led with unmatched valor. The Eurypontid dynasty, equally noble, shared in governance and military command. Together, these two royal houses embodied the strength, honor, and unity that made Sparta an enduring symbol of courage and leadership.
