Description
The County of Jaffa and Ascalon was a key Crusader lordship in the Kingdom of Jerusalem, formed in the 12th century. Jaffa served as a major port, while Ascalon was added after its capture in 1153. The county was strategically important due to its coastal position and proximity to Egypt. Often ruled by royal family members, it changed hands during conflicts like Saladin’s campaigns and the Third Crusade. The double County of Jaffa and Ascalon was one of the four major seigneuries comprising the major Crusader state of the Kingdom of Jerusalem.
