The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, or NC State Bureau of Investigation, abbreviated SBI, is a state law enforcement investigative body comprised of state agents, state peace officers, and non-sworn staff. SBI Agents are often members of other Civil Service Agencies, and do typically conduct their duties in cooperation with those departments. Today, the SBI investigates public corruption, misconduct, and other high-profile cases, such as kidnappings, arson, and other Federal Crimes. The SBI operates across the state of North Carolina and targets counties and areas with higher crime rates. The SBI cooperates with other Federal Law Enforcement Agencies to neutralize organized and capital crimes across the state of North Carolina.
