Description
The Hayashi household, established during the early Edoo period, has a long history connected to the cultural and political landscape of Japan. Origionally landowners of the Kanto region, the family gained prominence through their contributions to the Samurai class and their connections to Daimyo which allowed them to expand their landholdings. By the Meji-Restoration the family had transitioned into the new world along with the rest of Japanese society. They were among the few famillies granted the title Count, along with special audiences with the Emperor. During the late 19th and early 20th century the family became known for their patronage to the arts and education with the Hayashi family becoming a partner in forming a school in Japan for engineering. Tadasu Hayashi becoming the first Japanese ambassador to London set their place in High Society with their main residences being in England..
