Description
The Ministry of War (စစ်ဝန်, Sitwun ) was the iron heart of the kingdom, commanding the banners of the Konbaung kings. It mobilized hereditary service groups, mustered regiments of elephants, cavalry, and infantry, and directed the campaigns that carried Burmese arms deep into Manipur, Assam, and Siam. It was through this ministry that the Konbaung court repelled the might of Qing China in four successive invasions, securing the empire’s place as a formidable military power in Asia. In every conquest and every defense, the Sitwun was the hand that bore the sword of the king.
