Description
The 42nd Highlanders, or Black Watch, played a key role in the Napoleonic Wars, gaining fame for their bravery and discipline. Serving under the Duke of Wellington, they fought in major battles across the Iberian Peninsula, including the Battle of Vimiero (1808) and the Battle of Corunna (1809), where they helped secure British victories. Their courage and steadfastness were crucial in these campaigns, as they withstood harsh conditions and faced powerful French forces. At the Battle of Waterloo (1815), the Black Watch was part of the decisive coalition that defeated Napoleon, solidifying their reputation as one of the British Army’s most reliable regiments. Their service in the Napoleonic Wars marked a high point in the regiment’s long and storied history.
