Description
The Austro-Hungarian Monarchy was formed in the wake of both the Hungarian Revolution of 1848 and the subsequent Austrian occupation of Hungary and the Brother's War with Prussia. Establishing a system of dual monarchy under a single Emperor-King as a real union, the union was formed with the Austro-Hungarian Compromise of 1867. While Austria and Hungary are internationally recognized as two separate nations, their shared monarch and highly interconnected economies, militaries, foreign policies, and state functions make them practically the same state. Austria-Hungary is one of Europe's major powers, a highly militarized society encompassing the second-largest land area in Europe and the third-largest population. It is quite ethnically diverse, while also boasting the fourth-largest machine-building industry in the world. "Indivisibiliter ac inseparabiliter"
