Description
the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant was one of the largest nuclear power stations in the world, located near the town of Chernobyl and the city of Pripyat in northern Ukraine. It had four RBMK reactors, which were designed to produce electricity through nuclear fission. The first reactor was completed in 1977, and the plant’s total capacity reached about 4,000 MW. It played a critical role in supplying power to the Soviet Union. The plant was modern for its time, and reactors No. 5 and 6 were under construction when the disaster occurred.
