United States Navy [1860s] #35277600
Description
𝐁𝐀𝐂𝐊𝐆𝐑𝐎𝐔𝐍𝐃 𝐈𝐍𝐅𝐎: When the Civil War erupted, the U.S. Navy found itself woefully unprepared, with a meager fleet of aging wooden ships scattered across the seas. In those chaotic first months, naval leaders scrambled to transform their modest maritime force into a formidable fighting machine capable of strangling the lifeline. The Union Navy, with its expanding squadrons, would play a critical role in the naval campaigns of the Civil War. From the blockade of Southern ports to riverine operations along the Mississippi and its tributaries, the naval forces would become a instrumental in the Union's military strategy. By 1862-1863, the Navy had developed specialized squadrons, implemented advanced blockade techniques, and begun deploying revolutionary naval technologies like ironclad warships.
