Encircled by mountains, it stands as a natural fortress from which the Dark Lord coordinates the desolation of Middle-earth. At its center, rises Barad-dûr, the Dark Tower, over 1,500 meters high; Its gaze pierces cloud, shadow, earth, and flesh. Upon its pinnacle burns the Eye, wreathed in flame, always watching the Black Land it is built on below. From here, Sauron commands his servants and wages his war for domination through the Nazgûl—nine kings corrupted by the One Ring, led by the Witch-king of Angmar.
