Description
The FBI uses K9 units primarily for explosive and narcotics detection, but also for critical incident response, evidence response, and personnel tracking. The FBI K9 program began in 1999 with explosive detection canines and has expanded to include canines trained to locate evidence, missing persons, and even offer emotional support to victims and responders. These canines work closely with their handlers, who are FBI Special Agents or Police Officers, and live with them as family members.
