Description

𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐫𝐩𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜 𝐨𝐟 𝐓𝐞𝐱𝐚𝐬 “𝘽𝙮 𝙎𝙚𝙖 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙇𝙖𝙣𝙙!” The Texas Marines served as the naval infantry of the Republic of Texas Navy, providing guards for ships and personnel for coastal operations. Marine detachments appeared during the Texas Revolution and were later maintained with the navy after its reorganization in 1839. Their duties included shipboard security, landing parties, and protection of ports and naval stores rather than large independent campaigns. They supported naval expeditions and coastal defense where sailors alone could not operate ashore. As the navy declined in the mid-1840s, the marine detachments were gradually discharged or reassigned, and the service effectively ended before annexation to the United States in 1845.
