𝐌𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐚 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜 𝐨𝐟 𝐓𝐞𝐱𝐚𝐬 “𝙂𝙤𝙙 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙏𝙚𝙭𝙖𝙨!” The Militia of the Republic of Texas was a citizen-soldier force maintained for local defense before and after independence. Originating from settler companies, it was continued under the Republic in 1836 to protect communities, respond to emergencies, and reinforce regular troops when required. Militia units often assembled during periods of alarm and participated in conflicts ranging from the Texas Revolution to later frontier disturbances. Service was generally required of eligible men, providing a reserve of manpower when the small regular army proved insufficient. After annexation to the United States in 1845, the militia continued as part of the Texas state forces within the American system.
