Then, in 1955 it was redesignated as the Military Police Branch, before it was officially established as its own distinctive branch part of the Republic of Vietnam Armed Forces in 1961. The first Quan Canh Training School was in Da Nang, but later relocated to Vung Tau. Personnel are taught about maintaining discipline and order within the ARVN, traffic patrolling, handling firearms, Judo, and addressing pretty crimes. They even handled POW's, unlike the US MP.
