Description
Parnate treats depression. It is given when other treatments have not worked. It works by increasing levels of three neurotransmitters in your brain, chemicals that help regulate mood. It belongs to a group called MAOIs. Parnate requires strict dietary restrictions because it can interact dangerously with a substance called tyramine. Eating high-tyramine foods while on Parnate can cause a sudden, dangerous spike in blood pressure. Also known as a "Hypertensive Crisis" Some but not all of these foods include: Aged cheeses: Cheddar, blue cheese, brie, parmesan Aged/fermented meats: Salami, pepperoni, bologna, smoked fish Certain drinks.
