Description
The Infantería Imperial de los Andes "Hijos del Desierto" was a resilient line infantry unit of the Second Mexican Empire, restructured during its retreat into the northern territories. Designed for versatility and mobility, the unit incorporated two line infantry companies for conventional combat, an elite grenadier company for shock assaults, and a scout battalion specialized in reconnaissance and guerrilla tactics. This structure allowed them to remain effective across diverse terrains, from rugged mountains to the open deserts of northern Mexico and the Arizona Territory.
